Learn Spanish walking holiday
“Walk, talk and open a cork" - Learn basic Spanish whilst walking on beautiful Menorca or Mallorca"
The concept is simple - Enjoy a wonderful morning's walking along beautiful Balearic coastlines and through its stunning countryside, whilst being coached by a teacher who is part of the group. We then finish the morning's activities with a lovely 3-course lunch. The hotel and restaurant staff that we work with will also have been asked to engage with you in Spanish, thus giving you time to practice your newly found skills. This is not, however, a hardcore language course. It's a holiday and of equal importance are stunning walks, inspirational scenery, plus great food and drink.
How does the whole thing work?
We begin each day with a short coaching session in preparation for the day ahead. We then enjoy a morning's walking, whilst using in context the subject that we’ve been briefed on earlier. The day’s theme could be anything from day to day greetings to ordering in restaurants or shopping. The walks are shorter than our standard offering, around 3 miles, thus allowing time to stop and practice what we have learned thus far. As well as your course tutor, who is fluent in 4 languages, both of your backup guides are Brits who've been through the traumas of learning a second language and will always be on hand to help generally. We also encourage our guests to go out in the evening in order to mix with the locals, who’ll be happy to oblige when seeing that someone is making a genuine effort to learn their language. Our 2019 holiday was excellently received and, with this in mind, we'll be organising a level 2 holiday in order for people to return and pick up where they left off last year, along with those who already have a reasonable level of Spanish. We'll also be running a complete beginners week later in the year. The relevant dates are shown below.
About your Spanish tutor
We're pleased to have Katie Devine as our tutor for the Learn Spanish week. Katie grew up on the island of Menorca and is fluent in both English and Spanish. After graduating from the Sorbonne with a degree in Applied Foreign Languages and a Masters in International Studies, she completed her teaching diploma. Since then, she has lived in multiple countries teaching students of all ages and capabilities, from university students to business men and women.
Having lived abroad, she understands how frustrating it can be to learn a foreign language. This experience has taught her how important it is to show her students never ending patience and to give them plenty of encouragement. She knows that languages can't be learnt from a book and that the best way to learn is through practice and experiencing everyday life in said language. She sees how her students thrive when they are enjoying themselves and will apply this method during our Learn Spanish week.
Accommodation 1 - Level 2 Spanish on Mallorca
The base for our level 2 holiday during week of 17th April
is The "adults only" 3 star superior Hotel Romantic
. The hotel is on the Port of Pollensa on Mallorca, which is generally considered to be one of the most up market resorts in the Balearic Islands. It's perfectly located, being in front of the beach, and is only a short stroll to the bars and restaurants in the area. The Port of Pollensa itself was originally a working fishing village and still plays home to a significant residential community. This gives it a really nice Spanish feel, which is ideal to practice your Spanish in bars restaurants, etc.
Accommodation 2 - Beginners Spanish on Menorca
The holiday base for our beginners week taking place during week of 5th June is the delightful Hotel Loar in the typically Menorcan village of Ferreries. This little gem is situated in the centre of Menorca and has easy and comfortable access to all of our walks. It also boasts a fabulous roof terrace, with pool and jacuzzi for you to relax in at the end of our day’s activities. Ferreries is not a typical holiday resort, but an authentic village, where people go about their daily lives and this is very much a part of the holiday experience. The hotel is on the main square, with its shops, bars and restaurants, all of which are frequented by friendly locals. The bars that punctuate the village square are a perfect place to watch the world go by and to practice your newly acquired language skills.
