Archaeology on Menorca

Archaeology holiday on Menorca

About our archaeology holiday on Menorca

Our archaeology holiday on Menorca is a great way to get up close with monuments and remains going back over 3500 years. Menorca is equidistant in the Mediterranean and has the 2nd deepest natural harbour in the world (Pearl Harbour is the deepest). This geography has acted as a magnet to civilisations dating back to the Bronze Age and evidence of the island’s neolithic periods, plus Roman and Moorish occupations can be found all over the island. Menorca has the highest density of B.C. archaeology in Europe and is about to become a World Heritage site for this reason. The holiday is conducted in a light and friendly manner and designed to appeal to all levels of enthusiast. 2018 was our first foray into the archaeoligal holiday market and by general consent from our guests, it was a triumph.

Our Archaeology group leaders

Alongside a deep and intimate knowledge of their subject, it's important to us that our course tutors are approachable, friendly and able to communicate on all levels. With this in mind, we're delighted to be working with Elena Sintes Olives and Sabina Llambias PellAs a collective, they run Menorca Arqueològica, a company that specialises in the ancient history of the island. Elena has a doctorate in prehistoric archaeology from the University of Barcelona and gives talks all over the island on the history of Menorca. Sabina, who is half American and half Spanish, speaks perfect English and secured a degree in Medieval History, also from the University of Barcelona. Both are great communicators and have a sense of fun which they bring to their chosen subject.

The Accommodation

This holiday is based from the family run Hotel Loar, which can be found in the village of Ferreries. This delightful village is right in the middle of the island and has great access to most of the sites that we’ll visit. Ferreries is not a holiday resort, but a charming village where people live and work and this is very much part of the cultural experience that this holiday offers. The hotel is on the main square and close by to shops, bars and restaurants frequented by the locals.
